Teams need leaders. Not all leaders have titles. Those who lead understand that leadership is about relationships - truly caring relationships. A caring relationship begins with communication. Communication leads to trust. There is no relationship without trust.
Leaders know and understand the individual team members and what drives them. The leader knows that strong teams value a diversity of ideas and embrace the friction that comes from that diversity. The diversity of ideas helps team avoid groupthink and moves the team on the path to improvement.
Leaders model for others by communicating the truth, providing feedback when needed and expressing their vulnerability - they aren't perfect, they, like others make mistakes, they don't have all the answers, they need to input and support of the team to succeed.
